What inspired you to get into climbing?
I did some indoor climbing as a kid but really found my passion when I moved to Squamish. I’ve only been climbing for about 4 years now – but I feel I have progressed quickly with all the resources I have here. Climbing is where I feel the most at home. Whether I’m out placing gear in a beautiful crack or tackling a tricky boulder problem, I know each climb is pushing me closer to my goals. I get into a rhythm and nothing or no one can hold me back. Touching the rock, feeling the chalk slip off my fingers and leaving it behind in my dust, is exhilarating. I love having the feeling of a challenge. If I leave a crag knowing that I didn’t put all of myself into a climb it will eat me up for days. Knowing that I must give it my all, whatever the outcome may be, will help me overcome it. I started climbing because I loved the feeling of being “high”. A few years back I lost one of my brothers in a car accident. Climbing makes me feel closer to Jesse in some beautiful way.
What style of climbing do you specialize in?
I adore Traditional rock climbing. There is something so great about creating my very own pattern up the rock. One of the best parts is: at the end of the day I get to leave the rock natural and in the way I found it.
Where is your favorite place to climb at the moment?
Lucky for me, I live in one of the climbing meccas of the world. Squamish is filled with beautiful granite and green lush forests. So my favourite place to climb is my home. I spend a lot of time in the Smoke Bluffs Park right in the heart of Squamish
Can you tell us about a memorable climb you have done?
A milestone for me in climbing is completing a route called Jabberwocky. A delightful 5.10b finger crack with a bit of an attitude. Up to this point I had never lead anything that difficult on trad. I love crack climbing and everything about this route screamed my name! I finally finished the summer ticking it off my list! It was a very memorable moment for me,
Favorite thing about STATIC's climbing bags?
When I found Static Climbing Bags I was so excited! Not only are the patterns so different, beautiful and unique but the bags themselves are a climbers must have! They provide plenty of space and are extremely durable. Everywhere I go, I get compliments about how rad my chalk bag is!
